In a process fueled by improvisation, mood and a multitude of mediums, Lisa takes recycled and discarded materials - industrial felt, vellum, plastic bags, hardware, paper, paint, sewing patterns, and steel – and formalizes their familiarity.
Her recent constructions encapsulate moments – each an exploration unto itself and collectively an homage to shape, form, texture, and movement.
From design to construction, Lisa Abbatomarco has created her own original theatre productions as well as toured with renowned puppet/mask theatres, Arm of the Sea (NY) and In the Heart of the Beast (MN). In addition, she has composed sound-scores and directed for Magic Lantern Theater (MN) and participated in a variety of puppetry parades and pageants throughout her career.
In 2014 she was awarded an apprenticeship with the Institute for Community Research to develop her most recent work in progress, “Carried with the Wind,” a revival of the Warren Pageant.
Lisa Abbatomarco is an Interdisciplinary Visual and Performing Artist whose modest studio space is often bursting at the seams with painting, puppetry, collage, sculpture, experimental theater, and even giant turtles.
With simple, everyday and recycled materials, she introduces youth to new or unusual concepts in art through a hands-on approach, experimentation and play.
Lisa has taught innumerable programs for IS183 Art School (MA), Tang Teaching Museum (NY) and UPP Arts (RI) as well as community events, schools and festivals throughout the US.
